Suspected terrorists took at least 227 children and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State, confirmed the kidnapping and said that the group is working closely with the government and security agencies to make sure the victims come home safely, according to Vanguard.
Daniel Atori, the CAN Chairman’s Media Aide, signed a statement that claimed, “I just got back to the village after visiting the school and meeting with parents.” I told them that we are working closely with security forces, community leaders, and government officials to make sure our kids come home safely.
The statement says that 215 children and pupils, as well as 12 teachers, were taken during the incident. Some pupils were able to get away, and parents are picking up their kids from school, which is still closed.
The statement went on to say, “At this time, I urge everyone to stay calm and pray.” “We are doing everything we can to make sure the kidnapped kids and staff are brought back quickly and safely.”
The attack is just one more in a long line of school kidnappings in Nigeria. This makes people worry about the safety of pupils and how well protective measures work in regions that are at risk.
