Suspected bandits raided the community of Kurawa in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. They killed two people and took 15 others, including four nursing mothers and their kids.
According to Daily Trust, the attackers, who were said to be armed with high-tech weapons, assaulted the neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. yesterday.
One of the dead was a village leader named Alhaji ISU Saraki.
Two other people, one of whom is a member of the Sokoto State Community Guards, were hurt and are now getting medical care.
Hon. Sa’idu Ibrahim, a politician from the area, confirmed the occurrence and added that 15 individuals were taken by the attackers.
“Six women are among the people who were taken, and four of them are nursing moms. He claimed, “They also took their babies and five teenagers between the ages of 14 and 15.”
Hon. Ibrahim said that the rise in attacks on communities in the area was due to ongoing military operations in nearby Zamfara State and a peace initiative in Katsina. He said that this attempt is unlikely to work because “the bandits are not willing to give up their weapons.”
He said that even though mobile police officers had been sent back to the area, they didn’t stay at their places as they were supposed to.
The attack happened just a few days after bandits broke into the Tarah hamlet in Sabon Birni LGA, kidnapped nine people, and wounded one.
That event happened not long after reports said that members of the community’s vigilante organization had been sent to Katsira, which left Tarah open to attack.
Local sources say that young people in Tarah banded together to fight off the intruders, stopping what could have been a worse onslaught.
The violence that keeps happening has made people more worried about mass kidnappings and murders in the area, since communities keep facing more and more dangers even while security operations are still going on.
