Oba (Dr.) Adetokunbo Tejuosho, the Olu of Orile Kemta in Ogun State, criticized former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose yesterday for sending a rude “thank you” note to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday.
Oba Tejuosho’s statement, called “A royal rebuke to Ayo Fayose,” said that the Fayose’s comments were careless, rude, and unnecessary, and that the former governor will soon have to deal with the law of karma.
The PUNCH said that Fayose made fun of Obasanjo on Monday for what he said at his 65th birthday party in Lagos.
Fayose called Obasanjo’s comments “irresponsible” and said that the 89-year-old former president “belongs in the zoo.”
He also told Obasanjo to quickly send back the money that was sent to help him go to the event.
Oba Tejuosho responded yesterday by saying that Fayose’s message showed “his hollowness and haughtiness against nothing.” He also stressed that Obasanjo is not only a former military head of state and two-term president from 1999 to 2007, but also a global statesman and father of Yorubaland whose legacy lives on across Africa.
The king remarked, “Mr. Fayose, your recent message to our Baba Obasanjo was not brave; it was just careless and unguarded noise.” “It’s a sign that you’re morally confused.” Baba was right when he remarked that being brave and being full hardy are two very different things. Your action was a restless echo of a man who doesn’t remember that elders are the pillars of our society. You have the nerve to talk to a General while standing on the ground that his service, hard work, discipline, and sacrifices helped protect. “You throw stones at a giant while standing on a hill he built bare feet.” You spit toward the sky, forgetting that the sky will drop the rain back on your face tomorrow.
The king said that Fayose did not hurt Obasanjo’s honor, but “you have only made yourself more irrelevant.”
“Your comments do not reflect bravery; they show a shocking lack of wisdom. Do you think the elders in Ekiti State would be proud of you as a product? Baba Obasanjo is a part of our national story, a source of pride for the Yoruba people, and a guard for the republic.
The king responded, “You were only 16 when Baba became Head of State, and now you want to challenge the legacy of such a great man.”
Tejuosho went on to say that Fayose had learned a lot from Obasanjo, saying:
“You were just 43 years old when Baba put everything in your care to help you reach your goal of becoming governor in 2003. You suddenly have the nerve to scold a man who kept Nigeria going through storms you could never understand. You have the nerve to convey that message to the Yoruba race’s icon.
The king told Fayose that he shouldn’t have insulted Obasanjo in public and should have talked about whatever problems they had in private instead. He ended with a warning about what would happen if he did that.
“Listen to this truth: General Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo is an institution, a legacy, and a part of Nigeria’s story that your weightless bitterness cannot change. What kind of moral legacy do you wish to leave for your kids? “The future will not forgive you, and karma will come knocking on your door when you are old,” the king said.
