The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone has urged Ijaw people across the world to remain united and show solidarity, particularly in light of current political developments in Nigeria.
This comes as the youth body warns against what it described as “Ijaw victimization” following the ongoing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation of former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, over alleged misappropriation of public funds.
In a statement issued by its Chairman, Comrade Ineife Perekosufa, the IYC described the probe as unfortunate and ill-timed. He said Sylva, an illustrious son of Ijaw land, served both Bayelsa State and Nigeria meritoriously and does not deserve the ordeals he is currently facing.
He highlighted the former minister’s achievements, noting that Sylva played a major role in the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) under the administration of former President Muhammed Buhari.
