In 2025, Africa’s ultra-wealthy class reached a new high, with 22 billionaires with a total of US$105 billion. This is a big jump from the previous year’s US$82.4 billion and 20 billionaires.
The gain is especially impressive given the continent’s ongoing problems, such as unstable politics, unstable currency markets, and low consumer purchasing power.
The surge in billionaire wealth is in line with the rise in worldwide markets over the previous year. It also shows that people are once again confident in African private business, even though the economy is not doing well.
Wealth creation across the continent is still based on industries like manufacturing, luxury goods, infrastructure, real estate, and energy.
But the distribution of billionaire wealth is not even. A small number of countries have most of Africa’s wealthy people. This is because they have stronger markets, more industrial capability, and business-friendly environments. According to Forbes, these are the six African countries with the most millionaires in 2025:
1) South Africa has 7 billionaires.
With seven billionaires, South Africa is the richest country in Africa and the richest country in the world. The country has reasonably well-developed financial markets, solid corporate structures, and a wide range of industries, such as mining, retail, and luxury products. Even though the economy is tough, South Africa’s long-standing business networks are nevertheless helping high-net-worth people prosper.
2) Egypt has four billionaires.
With four billionaires, Egypt is one of the richest countries in Africa. The country’s billionaires do well in fields including building, engineering, and telecommunications, which have grown both at home and throughout the area. Its success shows that North Africa still has a strong presence in big private businesses.
3) Nigeria has four billionaires
Nigeria has four billionaires, much like Egypt, and Aliko Dangote is still the richest person in Africa. Even if there are problems with inflation and the currency, the country’s massive population, big consumer market, and growing industrial sector continue to create riches. Manufacturing, energy, and diverse investments are the main ways to make a lot of money.
4) Morocco has three billionaires.
There are three billionaires in Morocco, and most of them work in real estate, construction, and banking. The country’s stable business climate, geographic advantage, and strong linkages to both Europe and West Africa make it a good place for capital to flourish. Its billionaires show how mid-sized economies may grow wealth in a smart way.
5) Algeria has one billionaire.
There is one billionaire on the 2025 list from Algeria. This is because high-net-worth growth is concentrated in areas related to manufacturing and resources. The market isn’t as diverse as others in the area, but this presence shows that it could grow as private business picks up.
6) Tanzania—1 billionaire
Tanzania is the last country on the list, and it has one billionaire. The country’s presence, however small, shows that business is picking up and the private sector is getting stronger. New activity in commerce and commodities puts Tanzania in a better position to make more money over time.
