Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State and current National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has told the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop bothering opposition members if it really believes in its strength and popularity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aregbesola, who spoke at the opening of the ADC’s new state secretariat in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday, said that the APC is politically intolerant and afraid of losing power, according to Sunday Trust.
He remarked, “If the APC is sure of its strength and popularity, it won’t be so jumpy and chase opposition members around.”
“They are bothering and threatening our members and leaders in Lagos, Kebbi, Kaduna, and all over Nigeria,” he said. A confident party would have been tranquil, but that’s not the case. This shows that they know they aren’t popular.
He added that Nigerians were tired of the APC’s shortcomings and were ready to accept the ADC as a trustworthy alternative.
The ADC will be the party that takes advantage of the Nigerian people’s dislike, anger, and hatred for the APC. We shall take over as leaders in Nigeria and most of the states, thanks to God. This is because the people of those states loathe the governors who are heading to the APC. He said, “It’s a good riddance to bad rubbish.”
Aregbesola claimed that the party was ready to save Nigeria from the leadership failure and policy inconsistency that have characterized the current government.
He said that the ADC’s ideas were based on being responsible, caring for others, and including everyone.
Abdulfatah Ahmed, the former governor of Kwara State, claimed that the opening of the party’s secretariat signaled a new political beginning for both Kwara and Nigeria.
Ahmed remarked, “The importance of this unveiling is that a new dawn has begun in Kwara, and this is the start of a new path in our political experience.”
The former governor also said, “Kwara is going to be different because we are about to put in place a new party that will work for the common good of Kwarans in line with their goals.”
He said that ADC is here to stay and is ready to show that it is the biggest party in Kwara.
He also said that the ADC’s values were based on fairness, justice, and growth, and he promised that the party will provide people a good choice in 2027.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC and a former Minister of Youth and Sports, claimed that the party’s tremendous popularity in such a short time showed that Nigerians were ready for change.
“Our chances are very good in Kwara and all over Nigeria.” Can you believe that this party was just announced three months ago? Abdullahi stated, “This shows that the people have accepted our message.”
He went on to say that the true question for Nigerians was no longer if they wanted the APC to stay in power, but if the ADC could convince them that it was a real choice.
It is clear that Nigerians do not want this APC to stay in power. Now, we need to show them that we are the better choice, and that’s exactly what we’re going to accomplish.
“We don’t care whether governors leave their party to join the ruling party since they don’t have the support of their people. “This is now a problem between Nigerians and the APC,” he remarked.
Abdullahi was hopeful that the ADC would continue to develop as the sole viable option for solving Nigeria’s problems. He said that the party’s growth across states showed that it was getting stronger.
The opening of the ADC secretariat drew the attention of political leaders, youth organizations, and party members who called it a sign of rejuvenation and the start of a new political movement in Kwara and Nigeria.
