Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president in 2023, has responded to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who called the former governor of Anambra State a “social media president.”
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Obi’s media aide and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, stated that the movement didn’t care about Wike’s comments and that the minister’s frequent mentions of Obi were just a way for him to stay relevant.
“Listen to me. How will Wike sell his market if he doesn’t talk about Peter Obi? Tanko stated.
“While I’m talking to you, you need to witness the huge throng we have at our town hall gathering here in Nnewi (Anambra State). Wike isn’t even on our minds right now. We are meeting with all of our unit commanders in Anambra, and everyone is acting in an orderly way.
Tanko backed up Obi’s recent comments on how bad the public schools are in the FCT, adding that the Labour Party leader was just telling the truth.
“Obi hasn’t done anything wrong. I was there and witnessed such run-down structures. We also went to a clinic where there was just one nurse on duty. It’s not easy to get to the place by vehicle. Obi’s only job was to point out public places that needed a lot of work. He remarked, “Wike needs to accept that and do his job.”
Yesterday, Wike criticized Obi’s remarks, saying that he was using national concerns to play politics.
The minister said Obi was more interested in getting sympathy online than in developing a good reputation while speaking during the opening of new roads in Mabushi District, Abuja.
“I heard that one of the presidential candidates on social media went to a local authority school and declared that the administration has given up on public schools. His name is Mr. Obi Peter. Wike added, “You don’t have to play politics with everything.”
The minister said that Obi couldn’t criticize any government because he didn’t finish important infrastructure projects while he was governor of Anambra for eight years.
“You were governor for eight years, Peter Obi. Nobody would be talking about developing Anambra right now if you had accomplished all the work. He said, “You put the money in the bank where you make interest instead of developing Anambra, looking for profit while the state suffered.”
Wike said that his two years as FCT minister had produced more obvious achievements than Obi’s eight years as governor. He said, “Compare what we have done in two years in the FCT to what you did in eight years in Anambra.” Do you actually love this country? “Of course not.”
He went on to say that Obi was a bad party leader and an unstable politician. He also said, “You will continue to run for president on social media, but not as President of Nigeria.”
“You ran for president under a party you couldn’t even run. You couldn’t keep your party together, but you want to run a country with more than 200 million people. Wike responded, “It’s not available for people like you.”
