Ayo Fayose, who used to be the governor of Ekiti State, says that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president in 2023, is the last opposition voice left in Nigeria.
Fayose said this on Channels Television yesterday, but he still said that no one would beat President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
“Tell me, who will beat the APC? Let me tell you now that Obi is the only opposition in Nigeria that I know of. I didn’t claim that the opposition can win Asiwaju, but Obi is the only one that still has traction.
Obi is the one voice that has power, is still talking, and is ubiquitous even if he isn’t in government. I give it to him. But I want you to know that everyone else is only filling the void. Atiku is filling the breach, and so are the others, since people don’t listen to them anymore.
“ADC not going anywhere”
Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and his Rivers State counterpart, Rotimi Amaechi, are some of the opposition figures who have come together to take power from the APC in 2027.
The coalition has also chosen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to be the political party that would help them with their mission in the 2027 elections.
Fayose, on the other hand, has downplayed the ADC’s threat to the APC, stating that the opposition party is “going nowhere.”
“Listen to me, ADC. They are our old friends, senior coworkers, and junior coworkers.” He said, “Let me tell you that ADC is going nowhere.”
The former governor of Ekiti State said again that he supports President Tinubu, but he made it clear that this does not imply he is working with the APC.
Fayose said that he turned down an appointment from Tinubu because he wants to help the president, not for his own advantage.
“Have you seen me make an appointment with the APC? Asiwaju asked me, “Oshoko, what would we give you?” I answered, “Nothing, sir.”
“I’d rather be at home at 65, being more responsible and doing other things I need to do.” I have done a good job as a two-term governor. Let tomorrow take care of itself.
“I am not hanging around with the APC, but I have known Asiwaju for a long time and am his buddy and brother. That is the truth.
“Tinubu not the cause of the PDP crisis”
Fayose cleared President Tinubu of any wrongdoing during the PDP crisis. The former governor claimed he wouldn’t be one of those who would bring the main opposition party back to life, calling it “dead.”
He said that the few governors still in the PDP are thinking about leaving the main opposition party.
Fayose said without a doubt that it would be wrong to blame President Tinubu for the recent defections of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
