Arise News has said how they will bury their late news anchor, correspondent, and producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.
The station said in a video today that the update was coming.
On September 29, 2025, Maduagwu was killed in a terrible armed robbery. The 29-year-old was a lawyer, a model, a news anchor, a reporter, and a producer. She was shot and died in her home in the Katampe suburb of Abuja during a robbery. Barnabas Danlami, a security guard, also died in the incident.
The funeral plan says that there will be a “evening of tributes” tomorrow, Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja’s Central Business District.
On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, there will be a service of music at the Corpus Christi Cathedral on Kaduna Street in Port Harcourt.
ARISE News says that “Her burial in Anambra State on Saturday, October 18, will be preceded by a funeral mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu.”
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command, on the other hand, stated it had arrested 12 people who are thought to be connected to the death of the news anchor.
SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesman, said in a statement that the armed robbery gang got their guns from a dealer in the Niger Republic.
A preliminary inquiry revealed that the group got its guns, which included a locally made AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, and a pistol, from an arms dealer who worked on the border between Nigeria and Niger, according to Adeh.
Adeh further said that “all the suspects are from Kaduna and Katsina States and have admitted to getting their guns from a supplier in the Niger Republic that has not yet been found.”
Adeh explained how the operation to catch the suspects was carried out. He said that after the murder, the Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, sent a special investigation team commanded by DCP Aliyu Abubakar and helped by ACP Victor Godfrey to find and break up the network.
