People who think they are vehicle thieves have hijacked an official 18-seater bus from the police section of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
A security source told our reporter by phone yesterday that the white 18-seater Hiace bus with the registration number FG283 U10 was stolen on Monday at Gwarimpa Corner Shop in Abuja, according to Daily Trust.
He added that the bus is part of the INEC police squad.
He said that a senior police officer drove the bus to visit a friend at the 3rd Avenue Corner Shop in Gwarimpa.
He also said that the officer couldn’t find the bus when he came out of his friend’s house later.
“Actually, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who is a senior police official, went to see a friend on Gwarimpa 3rd Avenue on Monday when it was pouring. He claimed, “Not long after the rain stopped, he came out of his friend’s room and saw that the bus wasn’t where he parked it.”
He said that the police officer had already told the Gwarimpa Police Division about the stolen bus and had also called the FCT Police Control Room.
When we called, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, said she didn’t know about the theft but promised to check with the Gwarimpa Police Division and get back to us.
But she didn’t do that when she filed the report yesterday.
