President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that a Russian drone attack on a train station in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Sumy hurt at least 30 persons.
Since entering Ukraine in February 2022, Russia’s army has regularly attacked the country’s railroads, according to AFP.
Zelensky said that the attack on the Shostka station in Sumy was “savage.”
He said, “So far, we know of at least 30 victims,” which includes passengers and railroad workers.
He put up a video of a train car that was on fire and had broken glass and twisted metal.
He continued, “The Russians must have known they were hitting civilians.”
The site is around 30 miles (50 kilometers) from the border with Russia.
A different wave of midnight strikes by Russia’s army on Saturday shut off power to about 50,000 homes in the northern Chernigiv district.
Today, Ukraine’s army also said they had hit a big oil refinery in Russia’s northeastern Leningrad region.
Kyiv has promised to step up its long-range drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, which it terms just punishment for Russia’s daily attacks on its cities and power grid.
