Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has ordered a complete investigation into the deaths of several people in Akinlalu Community by members of the Amotekun Corps.
Saturday PUNCH says that the governor has since sent a high-level government group to the affected community to check out what happened on the day of the tragedy.
On Saturday, journalists in Osogbo got a statement from Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, saying that Adeleke had decided to look into the event.
Rasheed stated that his boss was quite upset when he heard that several people from the town had died after getting a preliminary report from his Special Adviser on Security Matters.
The statement said, “After getting the first report, the security team gave the Deputy Governor more briefings. A State Security Council meeting is now set for Monday to talk more about this issue and other new security threats in the state.”
He promised to get to the bottom of what happened. After the state security council meeting on Monday, a high-level group of government and service leaders will go to the community that was affected.
The Special Adviser on Security Matters to the state governor, the Commissioner for Information, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, the Commissioner for Transportation, the Attorney General of the State, the Special Adviser on Legal Matters to the governor, and the heads of the different security agencies are all expected to be on the delegation.
“I am a governor who follows the law. This issue is being looked into, and any violations will be handled according to the law. I have called a meeting of the security council to talk about this and other things, like worries about the effects of the Kwara banditry incidents.
“I extended my sympathies to the people who were hurt in this terrible event. As our government works on the issue, I ask the good people of Akinlalu to stay calm. The governor went on to say, “I feel their pain, but investigations are still going on.”
The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group backed by former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, is also worried about “The reckless shooting by operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps in Akinlalu Village, Ife North Local Government, which led to the needless loss of innocent lives and inflicted untold trauma on the community.”
The group, whose Publicity and Organizing Secretary is Oluwaseun Abosede, said in a statement, “We strongly condemn this act of lawlessness and lack of professional restraint on the part of those who are supposed to protect our people.”
“It is very disappointing that the Amotekun security group, which was set up to protect lives and property, could turn to such random violence against the people it is supposed to protect.”
It also added that Adeleke should be held responsible for the wrongdoings of his employees. It urged the State Government to quickly warn Amotekun workers, look into the terrible event, and make sure that those who are to blame are punished.
“We send our deepest condolences to the good people of Akinlalu.” We are thinking of and praying for the families who lost loved ones, the injured, and everyone else who is scared and grieving. May God give the dead peace and comfort the grieving, and may He mend the hearts of those who are hurt. By any measure, losing three kids from the same family is a disaster.
The group said, “We demand that justice be served to those who lost loved ones; that those who are receiving treatment in hospitals be given the best medical care; that families whose property was destroyed and looted by the rampaging operatives be adequately compensated; and, most importantly, that the perpetrators of this heinous act be identified, prosecuted, and brought to book without delay.”
Remember that the Osun State Police Command claimed before that they would make sure that everyone who was engaged in the violence that happened in Akinlalu, where Osun Amotekun Corps officers killed three persons, was found and punished by the law.
Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command’s spokesperson, told our reporter yesterday that they have identified the Amotekun men who were engaged in the killing while delivering updates on the case.
Ojelabi also said that the Command had talked to people from the neighborhood and promised that the probe into the incident would be comprehensive.
Ojelabi added, “We met with the people in the community who were affected, and they gave us their statement. We are still looking into it.”
When asked if the Amotekun operators involved had been invited, the Osun Police Public Relations Officer responded, “Some of them have been found, and there is no place to hide.” A lot of them are on the run, but we will definitely catch them unless they leave Osun State.
People in Akinlalu said that the Amotekun Corps killed three people when they entered the area on Tuesday.
The people who lived there reported that the Amotekun guys acted without reason and stole the bodies of the people they killed after the attack.
They also reported that roughly ten persons were hurt by gunfire during the attack and were sent to hospitals in Ipetumodu, Gbongan, and Yakooyo for treatment.
Kamardeen Babarinde, a resident of Akinlalu, remembered that before the attack, several farmers in Aba Oba, a village in the community, called Amotekun operatives to help them catch some suspected thieves who had stolen cocoa beans. The villagers then captured the thieves.
He went on to say, “That was on Monday, and the Amotekun men sent their people to Aba Oba.” But the people who were thought to be thieves fought with the Amotekun agents who came to pick them up from the villagers who had arrested them.
“One of the alleged robbers and an Amotekun were hurt during that event. That took place on Monday. The story of that event spread quickly around the neighborhood. The leader of the community youth went to the Amotekun office, and they worked things out. These Amotekun men came back to Akinlalu on Tuesday morning and met with Olori Odo (Head of Community Youth) and other people. They talked about what happened on Monday at the meeting and came to a decision.
He went on, “But on the same Tuesday afternoon, between 12:00 and 1:00 pm, Amotekun guys came back to Akinlalu and shot at random. I was close to where it happened. They shot women, children, and young people they met on the route. The people who had problems with them on Monday are the kids of an ex-military man who lives in Akinlalu. Instead of going to the man’s house, they attacked everyone they encountered on the street. They shot folks who weren’t armed.
“About 14 people were shot, and three of them were hurt badly. The Amotekun guys who attacked quickly departed the area. A few minutes later, as people came out to rescue the victims who had been shot, these Amotekun operatives came back and forcibly dragged away the persons who were badly hurt. All three died in the end. Two of them were brothers from the same mother.
“On Tuesday, no Amotekun worker was hurt. The way they acted made it seem like the Osun State Government had hired criminals to work for Amotekun. There needs to be an investigation into this. Our town is sad. The inhabitants of Amotekun lied when they let them go. I am from Akinlalu, and I was in town when everything happened. I saw it happen. They killed Oyebamiji Ibrahim, Ismail, and Olutayo Abiola. Two of the dead are siblings.
Another person from Akinlalu, who only gave their name as Jeleel and said they were also close to the scene, alleged that Amotekun men came in three vehicles and shot those who were not armed.
Earlier reports indicated that the leaders of the Osun Amotekun Corps said that three individuals died in a fight between their workers and some suspected criminals in Akinlalu.
Idowu Yusuf, the spokesperson for the security organization, said in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday that the criminals had attacked its men who were responding to a distress call in Akinlalu and taken three rifles from them by force.
Yusuf further added that the backup squad that was deployed to the area was attacked by the hoodlums at Akinlalu junction, which led to a gunfight that killed three people.
On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the incident happened, and it led to a deadly fight between the corps and suspected armed criminals.
“Official reports say that the operatives were sent out from the Amotekun Command in Ile-Ife after residents of Akinlalu called in an emergency and said that a group of suspected bandits had invaded farms in the area. Four Amotekun operators quickly got on motorcycles and went to the scene to deal with the problem and keep the people safe.
“Sadly, on their way to Akinlalu, the team was attacked by armed men, who are thought to be the same group that has been terrorizing the area.” “Two service rifles belonging to the Amotekun Corps were taken by force during the sudden attack,” Yusuf claimed.
The Osun Amotekun spokesperson went on to say, “After hearing about the ambush, reinforcement operatives were sent to Akinlalu with the goal of engaging peacefully, which included paying a courtesy call to the town’s traditional ruler.
“However, at the T-junction going into Akinlalu, the attackers had set up a roadblock and started shooting at the operatives right once, starting a ferocious gun war that lasted more than an hour.
“The Amotekun operators were able to defeat the attackers even though the attack was very strong. Three people were reported dead following the event, including people who were thought to be among the assailants. Three people were arrested, and several more were hurt and ran away.
The Corps also reported that they found two guns that had been stolen during the ambush, as well as security uniforms and berets, in the suspected criminals’ hideout.
