Crystal Palace made their first complete foray into European football yesterday as they beat Dynamo Kyiv 2-0 in Poland in the UEFA Conference League.
Colombian wing-back Daniel Munoz’s amazing high header in the first half gave Palace the lead in Lublin, where Dynamo is playing its home games in Europe this season due of the war in Ukraine, according to AFP.
Eddie Nketiah scored his second goal soon before the hour mark, stabbing in another cross from the great Yeremy Pino. This made Palace’s unbeaten streak of 19 matches a new club record.
Borna Sosa did get two yellow cards in a row, which left Palace with only 10 players for the last 15 minutes.
After beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final last season, Palace qualified for Europe. However, they were moved from the Europa League to the Conference League because they broke UEFA rules on owning more than one team.
The Premier League team had only played in European competitions once before, in the Intertoto Cup in 1998, when they played home and away.
Palace is one of the teams most likely to win the Conference League title. They will play AEK Larnaca from Cyprus in their next league game on October 23.
The Eagles will also play against AZ Alkmaar from the Netherlands, Strasbourg from France, Shelbourne from Ireland, and KuPS from Finland.
