Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has told his fellow governors that they are fully responsible for security. He said that the unprecedented resources they now have make it impossible for them to make excuses.
According to Daily Trust, Sule said today at the 2025 Northern Nigeria Investment and Industrialisation Summit in Abuja that monthly payments to the three levels of government had quadrupled since President Bola Tinubu’s reforms.
“For the first time in our history, all levels of government are getting more money than they ever thought possible.
“More than N2.2 trillion was shared this month alone.” When I took office as governor in 2019, we were sharing between N590 billion to N620 billion. He said, “Today, it is four times that amount.”
Sule told northern governors to put the extra money into areas that may change the economy and also be responsible for keeping their states safe.
“Every state today has the means to protect its people. We shouldn’t blame anyone for our safety. He said, “If we are going to blame anyone, it should be ourselves.”
Sule stated that his government had forced investors in solid minerals to set up processing units in Nasarawa, which resulted to the opening of a 3,000-metric-tonne-per-day facility and the completion of another 6,000-tonne plant that is now waiting to be opened.
He also said that there were proved oil reserves of between five and seven million barrels and that he wanted to increase rice farming from 3,300 hectares to 8,000 hectares before he left office.
The conference, which was called “Unlocking Strategic Opportunities in Mining, Agriculture, and Power,” brought together people from different sectors to talk about how to make the region more industrialized and attract more investment.
Earlier, the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) said that N2.22 trillion would be shared among the three levels of government in August. This was out of a total of N3.63 trillion.
