As the body of Dr. Solomon Arase, the former Inspector-General of Police, left Abuja for Edo State, the Nigeria Police Force set up a Guard of Honour.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the NPF’s Public Relations Officer, verified the event in images shared on X on Saturday.
He stated, “The Nigeria Police Force today set up a Guard of Honour for the late former Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, as his body left for Edo State.”
IGP Kayode Egbetokun said that the late IGP was an officer with an admirable strength of character at the event.
“The Nigeria Police Force says a sad goodbye to a well-known national figure.”
PUNCH Online said that Arase, who died on August 31 at the age of 69, was the 18th native Inspector-General of Police. He was known for his leadership, charitable work, and dedication to police reform.
The plans for the late IGP’s burial were made public on September 17. The ceremonies started in Abuja on September 24 with a Day of Tribute, followed by a requiem service and lying-in-state. His funeral mass and burial will take place on October 3, followed by a reception. The rituals will end with a thanksgiving liturgy on October 5.
