The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has told all of its members in Nigeria to stop working since Dangote Refinery is said to have fired a lot of Nigerian workers.
General Secretary Lumumba Okugbawa signed a circular that said this at an emergency National Executive Council meeting on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Channels TV says that the union accused the refinery of breaking Nigeria’s labor laws, the Constitution, and International Labour Organisation norms by firing workers who joined the union.
It said that the refinery had replaced the fired workers with “over 2,000 Indians,” which it called “an affront to all workers in Nigeria.”
Members of PENGASSAN in the field were told to stop working today, and all offices, businesses, institutions, and organizations around the country were told to close on Monday.
“All PENGASSAN members working in the field must stop working at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, and start praying for 24 hours.” The union noted, “This includes all operations in the control room, on the panel, and in the field.”
“Starting at 00:01 on Monday, September 29, 2025, all PENGASSAN members in all offices, companies, institutions, and agencies should stop providing services.
“No intervention of any kind will be allowed at field locations unless the safety of people and property is at risk; in that case, clearance must be obtained from the National Secretariat.”
“All processes that bring gas and crude oil to Dangote Refinery should be stopped right away.
“All IOC branches must cut back on gas production and delivery to Dangote Refinery and petrochemicals.”
The circular says that the union called for 24-hour prayer vigils and asked the government to step in, saying that the strike would go on until the fired workers were reinstated.
“An injury to one is an injury to all.” It went on to say, “No man is bigger than our country.”
Recently, Dangote refinery and NUPENG have been fighting over workers’ rights and safety standards.
