A 16-year-old girl from Okeodunwo Street, Igbado, Ondo Town, Ondo State, has told how her 53-year-old uncle sexually assaulted her over and over again and made her have two abortions.
According to a police source, the woman said that her uncle sexually attacked her virtually every day and hid the abuse by washing her with a handkerchief after each time, writes Vanguard.
Ayanlade Olayinka, a spokesperson for the state police, claimed that the victim herself went to the Command to report the crime.
Ayanlade, who said the suspect had been apprehended, went on to say that the victim “further alleged that the suspect engaged in the conduct virtually daily, and that after each occurrence, he would clean her private part with a piece of cloth.
“Shockingly, the suspect had also helped her end her pregnancies twice.
“After getting this troubling information, the Command’s Gender-Based Offences Unit quickly got to work, apprehended the culprit, and worked hard to get the case ready for prosecution.
“Since then, he has been brought before a court with the right to hear the case and held in custody until the next trial.”
He said, “The Command is dedicated to protecting the rights of women and children and making sure that criminals face the full force of the law without any leniency.”
Police investigators have also arrested a construction worker named Wale Ibrahim for stabbing his coworker Fisayo Ajetumobi to death over a debt of N14,000 on Areyetele Street, Sabo Road, in Ondo town.
According to Ayanlade, the two men were working on a building site along Laje Road in Ondo, near Litaye Camp.
He said that when the suspect got to the scene, he asked for the money he owed him for the wood he had sold him before.
“During a fight between the two, the suspect stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife.
“Sadly, the victim perished right away from this unnecessary act of violence.
“The police quickly arrested the suspect, and after a thorough investigation, he has been charged in court to face the full weight of the law,” he said.
Ayanlade said that the command “strongly condemns this senseless act of violence and will not tolerate crime in any form within the state.”
He tells the public that the Command is still dedicated to keeping people and property safe, and he urges locals to avoid violence and always look for legal ways to settle disagreements.
The spokesperson asked the public to keep working with the police by giving them meaningful and timely information that can help stop crime before it happens and make the state safer.
