GNA, Accra, September 17— The Lordina Foundation set up a free health screening program that helped more than 140 retired pastors of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, in Greater Accra East and West, along with their spouses.
The event took place at the Ringway Gospel Centre in Accra and gave retirees important health checkups, lab testing, and free medicine to keep them well.
Beneficiaries were checked for blood sugar levels, Hepatitis B, some malignancies, prostate health, and other important signs. There were general practitioners, gynecologists, urologists, dietitians, and optometrists on the medical team.
Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s First Lady, started the health assistance program to keep a promise she made at a church event in September 2024 to help members of the Assemblies of God Retired Ministers and Spouses Association on a regular basis.
Screenings have taken place in November 2024, March 2025, June 2025, and now September 2025.
The First Lady spoke at the event and emphasized that the program would continue because the prior versions had helped pensioners pay for expensive medications.
“Our retired preachers have worked hard for the church, the community, and the country. She remarked, “This project is one of the ways the Lordina Foundation gives back to society by helping those who have dedicated their lives to helping others.”
She told the recipients that the program will go on, underlining that their health and well-being were still very important to her and President John Dramani Mahama.
Mrs. Mahama told the people who came to the meeting to take their prescriptions and follow-up consultations properly so that their health would become better over time.
She also thanked the medical staff for being professional, caring, and dedicated.
Dr. George Selorm Quarcoe, a member of the Lordina Foundation’s board, stressed how important health and education are to the Foundation.
“These are not just things we need; they are the very foundations of successful communities.” He said, “Through our programs, we want to lift up those who have dedicated their lives to service.”
The Greater Accra East Regional Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Rev. Andrews Nelson Awintia, praised the project, saying it had made things much easier for the church.
He remarked, “No retired minister has come to the office asking for help since she started giving free medical care.”
Rev. Dr. Harry Insaidoo, President of the Retired Ministers and Spouses Association, also thanked the Lordina Foundation for its ongoing help, calling it “invaluable” for the people who received it.
The effort has become a key part of the Lordina Foundation’s outreach, giving a group that has long supported Ghana’s spiritual and social fabric both practical health remedies and peace of mind.
