Even though the government wants to reach its Net Zero goals, Labour has been told that Britain will require gas turbine power stations for new AI technology.
Jensen Huang, the head of Nvidia, a company that makes AI chips, claimed the UK could be a “AI superpower,” but he also noted that electricity prices are a “challenge” in the “near term.”
The Taiwanese and American businessman is the head of the most valuable firm in the world.
As part of US President Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain, he will have dinner at Windsor Castle tonight.
Mr. Huang told The Telegraph that he was “sure” that the UK would understand that it needs energy to establish new sectors.
He went on to say, “There will be a lot of reasons and incentives to want to bring more power to bear.”
“I want nuclear, wind, and solar power to be sustainable, but I also hope that gas turbines will help.”
Sir Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister, and Ed Miliband, the Labour Party’s Energy Secretary, will have a hard time responding to the comments.
Despite Ed Miliband’s Net Zero goals, Labour has been told that Britain will need gas turbine power stations for new Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
Even though Ed Miliband wants to cut carbon emissions to zero, Labour has been told that Britain will require gas turbine power stations for new AI technology.
Jensen Huang, the head of AI chipmaker Nvidia, stated that the UK might be a “AI superpower,” but he also noted that high electricity prices were a “challenge” in the “near term.”
Labour plans to decarbonize the UK’s electrical grid by 2030 and reach Net Zero by 2050.
Mr. Miliband has promised to permanently ban fracking to get natural gas, which is in accordance with Labour’s program for the general election.
As part of his work to help Labour switch to green energy, he has also promised not to approve any new oil and gas licenses in the North Sea.
AI systems need a lot of energy to run big data centers, and countries all around the world are rushing to satisfy the higher demand for electricity.
Mr. Huang said he had talked to Sir Keir earlier this summer, and the PM told him that AI infrastructure was needed in Britain to assist the economy “turbocharge.”
The head of Nvidia stated he thought some AI businesses might “become power generators themselves” and have their own energy sources.
He also said that his company would “push just about every possible angle” to lower AI’s carbon footprint.
This involves putting money into tiny nuclear reactors and making “the most energy-efficient computing systems.”
As part of a tech pact between the US and the UK that was made at the start of Mr. Trump’s state visit, Nvidia has committed to send 120,000 advanced processors to the UK to aid the country’s AI industry.
Mr. Huang stated, “Today is a historic day for US-UK technology cooperation.”
“We are at the Big Bang of the AI era, and the UK is in a Goldilocks position where the best talent, research, and industry come together.”
