Hilda Baci, a famous Nigerian chef, has officially established a new Guinness World Record for the biggest plate of Nigerian-style jollof rice. It weighed an amazing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds 9 ounces).
According to Vanguard, the record-breaking event was held at Victoria Island in Lagos in collaboration with the culinary company Gino.
Guinness World Records said today on X (previously Twitter) that it was true:
Hilda Baci and Gino set a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice: 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) at Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
Baci became famous throughout the world in 2023 when she held a cook-a-thon that made headlines. With this amazing accomplishment, she has once again put Nigerian food on the world stage.
Before the confirmation, Guinness World Records extended her a message of support by sharing a video from the Friday event and writing:
“What’s cooking?”
The Eko Hotel and Suites hosted the record-breaking cooking event, which drew a huge audience of fans, celebrities, and food lovers who came to see history being made.
Hilda Baci is now even more famous as one of Nigeria’s best chefs and cultural ambassadors with this new achievement.
