Today, Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, made fun of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) for telling Nigerians not to accept the recent drop in fuel prices at Dangote Refinery.
According to Daily Trust, Dangote had said that petrol prices would go down in numerous states and that a new plan would send compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks straight to filling stations. This was intended to minimize logistics expenses.
NUPENG, on the other hand, called the offer a “Greek gift,” saying that the refinery was violating workers’ rights, ignoring the union, and forcing drivers to join a competing group.
People on the internet made fun of the union for saying that NUPENG never helped the people during bad times.
Dangote spoke to reporters at the refinery today, on the first anniversary of gasoline production, and took a jab at the union for its criticism.
“They said we gave Nigerians a Greek gift. Why don’t you give the French one?” “It means that it is a gift that will always be there, even if it’s a Greek gift,” he remarked.
He also talked about the issue surrounding the refinery’s new CNG vehicles program, arguing that the direct fuel distribution plan will create additional jobs.
Dangote remarked, “The initiative will create at least 24,000 jobs.”
