Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs, has forgiven staff members who recently protested against their working and welfare conditions. She has promised to do more to help them.
This was said by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze, after a town hall meeting between the ministry’s management and personnel yesterday in Abuja.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim spoke to the group and stressed how important it is to work together, talk to each other, and respect each other in order to settle disagreements within the group, according to NAN.
She said that she didn’t have any hard feelings toward any of the staff members and told them to keep their minds on the ministry’s bigger goals.
“We should all be people first and foremost. The only way to move forward is to be united.
She added, “I don’t have anything against anyone, and I think we can work through our problems by talking and respecting each other.”
The minister called the Ministry of Women Affairs the “conscience of the country” because it fights for the rights and well-being of women, children, families, and other vulnerable groups.
She also said again that taking care of the staff was still her top concern as leader.
But she made it clear that the Permanent Secretary and Directors were in charge of some administrative tasks.
The minister said that each worker at the conference would get a 50kg sack of rice as a sign of goodwill.
In response, Union Chairperson Mrs. Anne Orjiobele, Comrade Success Alake, and other staff representatives admitted that the protest had been misdirected and promised to support the minister again.
They also asked for more attention to staff welfare, saying that the recent misunderstanding was not meant to happen.
Staff brought up more issues about housing, training possibilities, and inclusivity at the discussion.
The minister told them that their problems will be solved using the resources they had.
