Eric Chelle, the coach of the Super Eagles, is thrilled that the team beat Rwanda in a World Cup qualifier in Uyo yesterday.
Channels TV said that Tolu Arokodare’s goal was the difference between the two teams. This gave the Super Eagles a glimmer of hope in their quest to qualify for the tournament.
The Malian coach lauded his players for winning all three points at home against the Amavubis in his post-game press conference.
“I’m glad we got the three points.” Chelle remarked, “I’m happy with how the team played in the first half because we had 70% of the possession. Because of that, Rwanda was tired, and that’s why they didn’t press us when we scored the goal in the second half.”
The coach thinks the win gives the Super Eagles encouragement as they go ready for another important game against South Africa on Tuesday.
“Now we’re thrilled since we won 1-0. The coach informed everyone at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, “And we can go to South Africa with a lot of goals.”
Victor Osimhen, the star striker, had to leave the game because he hurt himself. But Chelle said the player will get a scan to find out how bad the injury is.
Adel Amrouche, Chelle’s Rwandan rival, on the other hand, questioned how the game was officiated.
Amrouche praised Nigeria for winning, but he also criticized some of the officials’ choices in the closely contested match.
“I don’t want to say anything about officiating because of what occurred before. He told reporters in the oil-rich state of Akwa Ibom Friday night, “I don’t want to be banned again.”
“Both teams fought hard, but the referees weren’t very good.”
Nigeria is now third in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers, six points behind South Africa, the group leader.
Nigeria has to win against the Bafana Bafana and the other three games left in the qualification race.
