Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, 91 years old, passed away on this day.
According to Reuters on the 4th, the Armani Group announced in a statement, “We announce the passing of Giorgio Armani, our founder, creator, and constant driving force.”
Armani was known to have had health issues for some time. At last June’s Milan Men’s Fashion Week, he did not appear at the fashion show at all. It marked the first time he failed to directly oversee the runway. Nicknamed “Re Giorgio (King Giorgio),” Armani was known for personally overseeing every detail of his collections and business, from advertising to styling models’ hair before they walked the runway.
The company plans to set up a condolence room in Milan this weekend. The funeral is expected to be held privately.
