Olajumoke Orisaguna, the Lagos bread seller who became famous in 2016 after being spotted by famous photographer TY Bello, is making a big comeback as a broadcaster after years of falling into oblivion.
Ty Bello observed her peddling bread on the streets of Lagos and thought she would make a great model. She is best known as Jumoke Oniburedi.
Her narrative of going from nothing to something became a media sensation, with her appearing on magazine covers and inspiring many Nigerians.
But four years ago, her life took a turn for the worst when she lost her popularity, money, and public interest after being the victim of fraud that her previous manager is said to have planned.
Jumoke said that the manager tricked her and took her money from endorsement deals and other business deals.
At a meet-and-greet event called The Comeback of Olajumoke (Oni Bredi), presented by the Cardinal Foundation, she told her story.
Jumoke remarked, “I really hurt and lost everything.” She flew me to South Africa twice to make a documentary, but I had to pay for our airfare and where we stayed. She just paid me N50,000 when we got back to Nigeria. I didn’t have any money or anything. I lost it all. I began to call folks for meals. Aunty Azuka and TY Bello came to my aid.
My aunt Azuka paid my rent, set up a shop for me, and provided me food and money every month to help me take care of my girls. It was that horrible.
“I’ve learned my lessons, and I’ll never leave those who really care about me again.”
Jumoke thanked Azuka Ogujiuba, TY Bello, and Mrs. Adedoja Allen, the CEO of Media Room Hub, for their help during those tough times.
Even though she and Ogujiuba didn’t get along well, Ogujiuba helped her pay for food and rent. Her former boss had supposedly turned her against Ogujiuba.
“Aunty Azuka and TY Bello were a big assistance to me. Azuka would always aid me when I called her, even if she didn’t have much. Her daughter would step in. TY Bello also helped me with money. These two people were my saving grace, and I am very thankful to them.
Ogujiuba went to Mrs. Adedoja Allen, the CEO of City FM and founder of the Cardinal Foundation, which is a project of Cardinal Broadcasting, to give Jumoke a job in broadcasting to assist her get her life back on track.
Ogujiuba told how she called the police to arrest Jumoke’s old boss, who had cheated her. However, the case didn’t have a big effect because the manager was let go and didn’t show up to any of the police’s follow-up requests.
