Lari, Limuru: Drama has erupted at St Francis of Assisi Limuru after a woman learnt that her husband was getting married to a second wife in church.
The woman who had tagged her kids along on Sunday, August 3, stormed the altar, claiming her husband was marrying a second wife.
In a viral video, the woman, identified as Mama Steve, broke down in tears, demanding answers from the church and questioning why the wedding was allowed to continue.
“This is not fair. I have tried to see the priest and church officials, but they always chase me away,” she said, visibly shaken.
“I heard the rumors from people. My husband and the woman did not even tell me,” she added.
The Catholic Church, which strictly does not recognise polygamy, has remained silent so far, even as the incident causes online uproar.
“If this wedding goes on, where does that leave me? Am I now useless? Is this the God I pray to? A God who lets my marriage end in church?” she asked bitterly, standing outside the church gate.
Despite her pleas, the wedding went on as planned inside the church, with a Catholic priest officiating the ceremony.
Kenyans online are now demanding an official statement from the church, with many asking why the concerns of the first wife were ignored.
