American professional wrestler, actor and television personality best known for his larger-than-life persona in the wrestling world. Rising to fame in the 1980s with the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), Hogan became an international icon through his charismatic “all-American” character, signature blonde mustache and bandana, and headlined many of wrestling’s biggest events, including multiple WrestleManias.
His immense popularity ushered in the “Hulkamania” phenomenon, making him one of the most recognized figures in sports entertainment. Over his career, Hogan won WWE and WCW world championships a combined twelve times, starred in films (“Rocky III”) and television shows (“Hogan Knows Best”), and helped bring professional wrestling into the mainstream of pop culture. He passed away at the age of 71.
Hogan — known for his towering 6’7″ (two-meter) physique, bandana and distinctive blond handlebar mustache — died at his home in Florida, NBC News reported, citing his manager Chris Volo.
