JUST IN: Gunmen in DSS uniform kidnap human rights activist
A Benin, Edo State-based leading human rights activist, Omobude Agho, has been kidnapped by gunmen in the uniform of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Agho, the Coordinator-General of Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSOs), was picked from his residence at Medical Stores axis of Benin in Egor Local Government Area of Edo yesterday’s morning, reports The Nation.
A member of the traumatised family of the frontline human rights activist, who spoke in confidence, disclosed that the gunmen stormed Agho’s house in four vehicles, laid siege, and took him away, without prior invitation.
The family member noted that the condemnable strategy of the invaders made the activist’s neighbours and other residents of the densely-populated neighbourhood to scamper to safety.
EDOCSOs’ ex-spokesman, Osazee Edigin, expressed surprise that the social critic was treated like the most dreaded bandit leader.
Edigin suspected that the act might have been carried out by DSS operatives in Edo.
