1. Nextier, a research organisation, has released its first quarter 2024 Nigeria Violent Conflicts Report, which reveals the staggering report below:

– Over 5,000 casualties
– 3,110 kidnappings
– 1,500 incidents of violent conflict
– Gunmen attacks
– Banditry
– Farmer-herder conflict
– Kidnapping

2. The report calls for collaborative efforts from state and federal institutions to address the root causes of conflict and insecurity while fostering socioeconomic development and enhancing security measures.

Adamawa

– Oxfam builds social cohesion in Adamawa’s Michika
– Michika Local Government Area suffered greatly during the insurgency in Adamawa State
– The initiative aims to foster unity and reduce crises in the region
– The aftermath of the insurgency in Michika LGA has led to widespread distrust among residents, internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, and returnees, underscoring the urgent need for social cohesion

Anambra

– Southeast Insecurity: Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a human rights lawyer, has said the insecurity in the Southeast must be tackled through concerted measures and partnerships to de-escalate tension in the region.

Benue

– Inevitable hunger looms in Apa and Agatu LGAs of Benue State as marauding Fulani herdsmen continue their deadly attacks unabated
– Kidnappings and killings in the two local government areas have led to the abandonment of the communities in the two LGAs by the natives

Kebbi

Here are some insecurity incidents in Kebbi State ¹:
– The Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Kemi Nanna-Nandap, tasked security personnel to ensure full protection of the country’s borders.
– She said this was imperative to ensure peace, security and economic prosperity of the country.
– Nanna-Nandap, who addressed personnel manning the Nigerian border in Kamba, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi, said they must regard the security of Nigeria as a priority.
– The personnel were drawn from the Immigration, Correctional Service, DSS, Customs, Civil Defence and Police, among others.
– The safety of this country depends solely on how well the nation’s borders are protected.

Sokoto

– Banditry and Terrorism: The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, stated that Nigeria is experiencing the repercussions of its past actions, particularly evident in the increased incidents of banditry and terrorism, primarily in the Northern region.
– Prioritizing Education: Kukah attributed the insurgency to the government’s failure to prioritize the education of the youth, cautioning that the situation could deteriorate further.
– Insecurity in the North: Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu lauded the move of the federal government to address insurgency in the zone. The Governor who was represented by his Deputy Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir promised to support the Federal Government to end insecurity in the country.
