CSO to Tinubu: Recover looted funds, fight corruption, suspend all taxes
Amid widespread public outcry against the proposed tax increase by the Tinubu government, a civil society organisation in Kebbi State, the Association For Peace And Good Governance, has asked the Tinubu-led federal government to channel her energy into fighting corruption and the recovery of looted public funds.
The Secretary General of the organisation, Comrade Usman Muhammed Anache in Birnin Kebbi, while reacting to the federal government plan to increase taxes, stated that a fragile and struggling Nigerian economy will be suffocated by tax increase and will scare away investors and force existing ones to fold up creating jobs loses and escalate crimes, reports Daily Independent.
The group admonished the federal government to instead give total tax waivers to companies to boost production and create more employments in the country and to as well evolve a holistic anti graft mechanism that will fight corruption to its knees.
“Our stand is we are against all taxes at this time,we are instead advocating for total tax waivers and a no holds barred anti graft fight because that is what the country needs now not tax increase”.
They maintained that, tax increase will threaten fragile peace in the country even as they expressed fear that even the tax increase succeeds the handlers will steal it, therefore the country needs a tax friendly regime one which will bring more investments into the country.
