Kano governor launches the construction of N27 billion projects amid election controversy
The N27 billion Dan Agundi Interchange (flyover and underpass) and Tal’udu Interchange (Clover Leaf Flyover) are two important projects that the governor of Kano, Abba Kabir Yusuf, unveiled yesterday.
The announcement of the projects, which are supported by a joint account between the state and local governments, drew criticism from the public, particularly from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), according to The Guardian.
The APC had criticised Yusuf for choosing to have local councils contribute 70% of the project funding.
According to a memo issued by the state’s accountant general’s office, Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited was given a total of N15. 97b to construct the two projects.
Our correspondent saw the release, which states that the enormous amount voted for, to be funded from the joint state and local council account through 30 per cent and 70 per cent respectively.
As instructed by the state executive council, N6b under a genuine Advance Payment Guarantee (APC) has been released to enable quick mobilisation of the contractor. the project is anticipated.
