The government has announced that the allowance for thousands of asylum seekers who are compelled to stay in hotels in the UK while their claims are being processed would be reduced to just £1.25 per day.

Refugee NGOs have deemed the move to reduce support payments for individuals staying in hotels from £9.58 to £8.86 per week in the new year “unfathomable.”

The Home Office discreetly released a statutory instrument, a type of legislation, last week that revealed the change.
