Gunmen stole Kogi governorship election petitions from tribunal secretary – Police
Gunmen absconded with the petitions of four parties contesting the election of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Usman Ododo in the November 11, 2023 ballot, according to David Mike, Secretary of the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
As reported by Channels TV, this information came from William Aya, who is the spokesperson for the state police.
Aya stated today that Mike informed the authorities that he was assaulted on Monday by a group of armed men on his way to the High Court Complex in Lokoja, the capital of the state, where he has an office.
The secretary of the tribunal stated that he and two other officials were there when the incident took place.
“As he tried to reverse, all of them (the gunmen) encircled and blocked him (Mike),” the police stated.
“He was confronted by a group of masked men, all dressed in black, who brandished weapons and opened fire before forcibly removing him and his two coworkers from their vehicle. The robbers then proceeded to loot the vehicle, taking with them various documents, including petitions filed by four different parties (AA, APP, PRP, and SDP), two record books, and a bag containing his personal belongings.”
The state’s commissioner of police has reportedly requested an investigation into the event, according to the police.
The home of Gabriel Longpet, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, was stormed by gunmen last Friday.
