Godwin Emefiele, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), intends to petition the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court to modify the N300 million bail it had previously granted him.

We are still working on it, indeed. According to The Guardian, a member of Emefiele’s legal team stated, “We expect to finish on the bail issue before the week runs out.

“However, we will be requesting a modification from the court regarding one of the bail conditions that limited his freedom to the jurisdiction of the court.”

The ex-CBN governor was allowed to a N300 million bond with two sureties in the same amount by Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court on November 17, 2023.

Alleged N1.6 billion in procurement fraud is at the heart of Emefiele’s six-count revised indictment.

After entering a not guilty plea, the ex-CBN governor was released on bond in the amount of N300 million, with the promise of two sureties.

Until he complies with his bail terms, he will remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Adjournment of his trial has been granted by an Abuja High Court to Thursday, January 18, and Friday, January 19, 2024.
