According to the BBC, a 70-year-old woman from Uganda named Safina Namukwaya became pregnant through in vitro fertilisation and has now given birth to a set of twins, a boy and a girl.

At Kampala, Uganda’s Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre, Namukwaya had a successful caesarean delivery on Wednesday.

According to the hospital’s Facebook post, which was made public on Wednesday, the announcement was made by 70-year-old Safina Namukwaya immediately before the birth of her lovely babies. Indeed, she gave birth to a set of twins—a boy and a girl. Truly a remarkable accomplishment.

This brave mother and her twins are our inspiration, and we hope you will join us in celebrating their arrival. This is a story about more than just medical triumph; it is a narrative about the indomitable human spirit.

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a method that helps infertile couples conceive.

Intrauterine fertilisation (IVF) is the controlled laboratory fertilisation of a woman’s eggs with her partner’s sperm.

Embryos are formed when fertilised eggs are sent back to the mother’s womb for further development.

According to Namukwaya, who spoke to a privately held NTV channel, this was her second child in three years, following the birth of a girl in 2020.

The 70-year-old mother revealed that the children’s father had deserted her and that she had endured other hardships throughout the pregnancy.

Men dislike being informed that a woman is pregnant with more than one kid, she bemoaned. No one from my partner has ever shown up since I was admitted.

After years of being teased and stigmatised for being childless, Namukwaya expressed her happiness to have children, even though she was unsure of how she would nurture them, according to the study.

“Once upon a time, a little boy teased me, claiming my mother had cursed me to die childless,” she said.

The birthing facility reports that Namukwaya has broken the record for the oldest African woman to give birth.
