Damilola Omojolowo, 32, a street sweeper, was charged and given a life sentence Wednesday by Justice Abiola Sholadoye of the Ikeja Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court for defiling a 14-year-old girl.

According to The PUNCH, Omojolowo was found guilty on one count of defiling the female, whom he claimed to be his girlfriend.

The crime committed was against Lagos State’s Criminal Law, Section 137.

The prosecution claimed that the guilty party defiled the victim by engaging in illegal sexual activity with her.

After being arraigned, the prisoner entered a guilty plea to the counts that were filed against him.

A.R. Abolade, the prosecution’s attorney, stated that the defendant committed the crime at No. 3 Church Street, Ajegunle, Ikorodu Road, Lagos, between June 2022 and July 2022.

The prosecutor added that the woman was rushed to the hospital after the convict gave her a white tablet to eat, which caused her to begin bleeding. This is how the incident was discovered on August 6, 2022.

The convicted party acknowledged engaging in illicit sexual relations with the plaintiff, claiming that she was his girlfriend.

But he denied providing her with any medication to swallow.

Having examined the case facts, the prosecutor, Justice Soladoye, sentenced Imoh.

A minor cannot give their consent to any sexual conduct, and that is right. It is useless even if she did.

“He denied providing the victim with any tablets to swallow. It is crucial to emphasise that the child’s taking of the medication is unimportant because the only prosecution in this situation is defilement of the youngster.

“Defendant Damilola Omojolowo is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment for defilement, according to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, since the offence of defilement is a strict liability offence with a required sentence.

“The male defendant, Damilola Omojolowo, is to have his name entered into the Lagos State Government’s sex offenders registry.”
