Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police (I-G), has appointed three Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to supervise security preparations for the upcoming governorship elections on Saturday in the states of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated this during a press conference in Abuja.

Frank Mba (Imo), Habu Sani (Kogi), and Daniel Sokari-Pedro (Bayelsa) comprise the DIGs.

Adejobi stated that the senior police officers’ deployment was consistent with the force’s pledge to ensure impartiality and improve the oversight of personnel stationed for the election.

He explained that its purpose was to supplement the security arrangement’s oversight in order to ensure that the election adheres to the utmost levels of credibility and transparency.

The police spokesperson stated that the organisation had allocated sufficient personnel and resources in preparation for the election.

Adejobi stated that the IG had issued an order restricting vehicular traffic on roadways, waterways, and other modes of transportation in the affected states from 12:01 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on November 11.

“Aminees on election duty, including firefighters, INEC officials, and accredited electoral observers, as well as ambulance personnel responding to medical emergencies, are exempt from the restriction,” he explained.

He stated that the movement restrictions imposed in the affected states on election day were implemented as a precautionary measure to create a secure, safe, and conducive environment for the election process.

Additionally, it aims to ensure public order management, voter safety, and assist security agencies in conducting effective policing, according to Adejobi.

“Therefore, travellers and residents of neighbouring states should take note of this and organise their movements in advance to avoid unfathomable difficulties during the election period,” he added.

According to him, security advisers and escorts were cautioned by the I-G not to accompany their principals and politicians to polling booths and collation centres throughout the election.

Adejobi stated that individuals discovered disobeying the directive would face severe penalties.

He stated that only security personnel assigned to the election were allowed to be in the vicinity of the designated polling places and centres.

As per his assertion, the prohibition regarding the improper operation of concealed number plates, tinted spectacles, sirens, and revolving lights remains valid.

He issued a warning that offenderes would face suitable penalties.
