“Twenty Okada riders were killed within three weeks”; this constitutes insecurity.
Yesterday, the Ondo State security organisation with the codename Amotekun reported that in the past three weeks, their vehicles have been stolen and no less than twenty commercial motorcyclists have been slain throughout the state.
Vanguard reports that its commander, Adetunji Adeleye, who expressed concern over the unsightly development, stated that it was widespread in Akure, the state capital.
Adeleye, who reaffirmed the security organization’s commitment to minimising illicit activities throughout the holiday season, cautioned against nighttime motorbike riding.
He stated, “The government-imposed ban on commercial motorcycles from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. will not affect motorcycles performing essential duties.”
As per his assertion, twenty fatalities and thefts of commercial motorcycles have been documented over the past three weeks; therefore, nighttime motorcycle riding is hazardous.
“We wish to urge commercial motorcyclists who put in 12 hours of labour to take a break so that we may be able to identify the criminal organisations.”
“Vehicles without registration plates are no longer allowed to operate on the road, and all vehicles with tinted glass are required to have a police permit for them.”
“Dealers ought to utilise dealer numbers rather than stickers, as vehicles bearing stickers exclusively will be seized.” We have implemented the following measures to ensure the protection of lives and property in the state of Ondo.”
Adeleye, who led a procession of eleven criminal suspects apprehended with weapons manufactured locally, announced that the organisation had initiated Ember Border Patrol operations for 2023/2024.
As per his assertions, certain weaponry had been trimmed to size or extended in range, which is perceived as their strategic manoeuvre to incite unrest among unsuspecting inhabitants and commuters in Ondo State.
“We are resolute in our intention to thwart their scheme, and we are conveying the following message to them and any others who intend to sow discord during this Yule season: operations will once again cease.”
“Our personnel will be stationed in all identified areas of low light in Ondo State, with a particular emphasis on Akure.” During this time, our patrol vehicles will be on a continuous 24-hour rotation.
“We are committed, in conjunction with other security agencies, to minimising to an absolute minimum all criminal activities, including shop and house breaking and abduction.”
The commander reflected on the previous year, stating, “We rescued over one hundred individuals who had been abducted or robbed. However, for this year’s patrol, we are prepared to do more; we extend our gratitude to the public and request additional support.”
