Former EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa has been released from custody by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to Daily Trust, Bawa has been in jail since President Bola Tinubu suspended him in June.

Bawa was suspended after serious charges of abuse of authority were made against him, according to Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Bawa was accused of seeking a bribe of $2 million from the former governor of Zamfara State and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, which Bawa strongly refuted.

Bassey claimed that he was suspended so that a thorough inquiry could be conducted into his actions while in office.

DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya said Bawa was freed on Wednesday.

Former EFCC chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa was released a few hours ago (today, October 25th, 2023), as confirmed by the DSS.

Since then, a video of Bawa’s family members greeting him has gone viral.

High-ranking former and current government officials, according to Daily Trust sources, begged the President to release Bawa by ordering DSS to do so.

One security source, who requested anonymity, confirmed, “Yes, he was released today after much pressure from who’s who in the society.”

According to another account, he was let go when the secret police had finished their investigation.

According to Daily Trust, DSS agents broke into Bawa’s home and office in the nation’s capital, and he spent his final Eid el-kabir in their custody.
