Female microfinance official flees with N1.97m customers’ money

Esther Hamidu, a microfinance bank credit officer, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for theft of N1.97m in customer deposits.

According to The PUNCH, investigations have revealed that from March to December of 2023, Hamidu stole the bank’s customers’ daily deposits.

 

According to information obtained by our correspondent, a bank manager in Abeokuta, the state capital, discovered that the contribution had not been remitted and subsequently filed a police report.

 

Hamidu was reported missing after police tried unsuccessfully to apprehend her and force her to repay the contribution.

 

A state police command source who requested anonymity, however, confirmed that the suspect had been arrested.

 

On Saturday, Omolola Odutola, the state’s police public relations officer, confirmed the suspect’s arrest by saying she was taken into custody the previous day in Ibadan, the state capital of Oyo.

 

“Yes, she was taken into custody. She was arrested in Ibadan and moved to Ogun State for processing. She has admitted guilt. On Sunday, Odutola told our correspondent that the woman had been unable to explain where the money had been spent.
