Eleven kidnappers Arrested in Abuja City
Eleven alleged kidnappers have been apprehended by police in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over the past month.
The verification came after a viral video showing a daylight one-chance robbery in which a man desperately tried to hold the door of a moving car was widely shared across various social media platforms.
Fears were spread among the populace after a disturbing video surfaced showing the victim of a one-shot robbery attempting to jump from a moving car.
Josephine Adeh, a spokesperson for the command, responded that the police were aware of reports of abductions and kidnappings in communities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
She countered that the information circulating about the city’s murder and kidnapping rates was inaccurate, and that fears of an attack on the nation’s capital were still very real.
She claims that in the past month, eleven people involved in kidnapping have been apprehended.
“The Command can confirm that there were reported cases of abduction/kidnapping within the FCT, which heralded swift response by the police, who successfully rescued and reunited some of the abductees with their family members.
While investigations are still ongoing, 11 kidnappers have been apprehended by the Command in the past month. Kidnappers in custody are helping authorities catch those still on the run.
The Command would like to clarify that the figures reported in the media are incorrect and misleading, and should not be used to cause panic.
The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Haruna Garba, has issued the following statement to reassure locals of the force’s dedication to keeping them safe.
“He similarly urges those spreading false information to promote fear in FCT to stop, saying their actions are counterproductive.
Instead of spreading fear among the populace, “as a Nigerian, you have an obligation to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to make the city safer. To this day, the FCT is the country’s safest major city.
The CP strongly encourages the public to contact the following emergency numbers immediately in the event of a crisis or complaint: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.Furthermore, the Public Complaints Board (PCB)”
You may recall that the widespread insecurity around the city centre and some outskirts of the FCT, Abuja, was causing a great deal of unease among the locals. This insecurity took the form of frequent and indiscriminate robberies and abductions of motorists and commuters.
The unfortunate circumstance has put a damper on the city’s vibrant nightlife.
A number of locals have voiced their displeasure at the lack of police presence and activity in the FCT.
One of the city’s longest roads, Ahmadu Bello Way, rarely has a police patrol team visible to passing motorists. The armed Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the unarmed Vehicle Inspection Officers are the agencies most commonly seen on rapid patrol.
