Despite cease fire, 7 houses burnt down during curfew in Osun
Even though the Osun State Government tried to mediate the conflict between the Ifon and Ilobu communities yesterday, arsonists still destroyed at least seven homes.
After meeting with community leaders on both sides, the government ordered a cease fire and imposed a curfew, as reported by The Nation.
According to a statement released yesterday by the Ilobu Development Union’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tairu Babatunde, seven homes were set on fire after the government met with the leaders of the two communities.
After a government order to cease fire and a curfew was imposed on the communities, he criticised the security arrangements for allowing the crisis to persist.
Babatunde stated, “The seven houses that were razed between Thursday night and Friday morning belong to Ilobu indigenes and these things happened after the curfew had been imposed on the two communities.
“We beg the state government to make sure that adequate personnel are deployed in the communities to restore law and order. The 24-hour curfew is not enough if lives and property of the people are still not safe.”
