Nigeria Independence – By Peter D Rock Uwaibi
The debate should focus on how post-independent Nigeria has impacted our desired communal harmony. Instead, we lament the loss of the peaceful life we once knew during the colonial era. Today, we often embrace practices like ritualism, cultism, tribalism, bigotry, mediocrity, and favoritism over merit-based patriotism.
Independence seems hollow when we still suffer from oppression, autocracy, and a criminally-led plutocratic government. To realize the benefits of true democratic independence, we must peacefully organize to divide the country into progressive unions, enhancing security and creating socio-cultural opportunities.
Today’s Nigeria is governed by kakocracy, marked by widespread dishonest practices. Regrettably, we’ve never fully embraced the promise that ‘though tribes and tongues may differ, in brotherhood we stand.’
This is the 63rd independence anniversary. Have we truly stood together as brothers? Nigeria remains a deprived state, exhibiting all forms of criminality to a perplexed global audience. We aspire to create comprehensive national representation for sharing both responsibility and rewards.
The wound runs deep, and the bleeding is profuse; its beyound stitching. We cannot achieve equity; the fabric is torn beyond repair, in a state of irreparable tatters.
The pertinent issue is, let us all seek constitutional rights to self determination.
