Breaking : Chicago varsity releases Tinubu’s records to Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has received President Bola Tinubu’s academic transcript from Chicago State University in the United States of America.
According to The PUNCH, the CSU complied with the court order and provided Atiku with the requested documents yesterday.
A US district judge rejected the president’s objection and ordered the CSU to release Tinubu’s academic record.
With these considerations in mind, the court rejects President Tinubu’s objections to Magistrate Judge Gilbert’s recommended ruling and instead adopts it in its entirety, as stated by the judge.
The application submitted by Mr. Atiku is approved. Since CSU has informed the court that it is prepared to respond to the discovery requests and produce a witness by the October 5, 2023 deadline set by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the court sets an expedited schedule for the completion of discovery.
Respondent California State University is ordered to provide all responsive and non-privileged documents in response to RFPs Nos. By Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. CDT, the Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU’s corporate designee must have been concluded. The Supreme Court of Nigeria will not extend or change the filing deadline of October 5, 2023.
The documents from CSU’s response to Atiku’s four requests went viral on Monday night.
Following Atiku’s request for “A true and correct copy of any diploma issued by CSU in 1979 to Mr Tinubu,” the US university responded, “CSU does not, in the ordinary course, keep copies of student diplomas, and after the diligent search cannot locate a copy of the original diploma it prepared for Mr Tinubu in 1979, hence, has no documents responsive to this request.”
In his appeal against Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election held on February 25, Atiku plans to rely on the academic record from CSU.
Tinubu’s legal team, however, has argued that the Supreme Court has no need to see the documents.
