After the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal voted to remove Abba Kabir Yusuf as governor, the Kano State Government announced a 24-hour curfew.

According to Channels TV, Police Commissioner Muhammad Usaini Gumel announced via broadcast that a joint team of security operatives has been deployed throughout the city to enforce the curfew.

In a statement, Gumel explained that the state government had issued the order, and that a combined team of security operatives had been sent to different parts of the city to enforce the curfew.

Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) celebrated hours earlier when the tribunal announced that APC candidate Nasiru Gawuna had won the election held on March 18.

Yusuf, who ran on the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) ticket and was initially declared the winner of the election by INEC, had his victory overturned by the court.

After reviewing the petitions, the three-member panel ruled that INEC should not issue a certificate of return to Yusuf and instead issue one to Gawuna.
