Dash Me Stores on Muiz Banire Street in the Lekki Phase 1 neighbourhood of Lagos State has had an employee report that police from the nearby Ikoyi Police Station beat him up.

According to The PUNCH, an investigation led by Inspector Funmi Odukoya revealed that the officers involved had been instructed to commit the act by an unsatisfied client named Juwareto Okaisabor.

In October of 2022, it was discovered that Okaisabor had won a lightly used Fiendi designer bag at a charity auction held by the shop.

She sent back the bag a few weeks after buying it, saying it had a problem.

The store took back the item after she complained and promised to issue a refund once it was sold.

On Tuesday morning, Okaisabor allegedly left the store and returned with armed police officers, who then stormed the business, assaulted the employees, and arrested them.

An unnamed facility manager named Emmanuel claimed that unidentified police officers punched and dragged a salesgirl as Okaisabor looked on from a distance.

To paraphrase Emmanuel: “I was at the facility working with the fire service people when I saw a woman punching one of the sales girls in the clothing store. He was already seated atop the girl when I hurried to the scene.

When I asked who she was and tried to intervene, the woman identified herself as a police officer. Two officers, both dressed in traditional garb. Nonetheless, she continued holding her and nearly naked her despite my intervention.

The woman who accompanied them did nothing as her husband and son abused the salesgirl in front of her. Because she was not the one who did business with them, the girl had none of their business. However, they still wouldn’t listen to her defence.

I found out later that she was attempting to force her into a car. I went to secure the entrance as the building’s manager. Later, she summoned four more officers, all armed and ready to enter the store and remove the salesgirl. They closed up shop as well.”

Emmanuel continued, “After beating the salesgirl, the policemen locked the shop and handcuffed her.”

This paper verified yesterday evening that the attendant, now 20 years old, was still being held at the police station.

A disturbing new development in the case was revealed to have been introduced by Divisional Police Officer Kehinde Adedara, who had accused the attendant of assaulting the policewoman and her colleague.

There was no response when we tried to contact Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police’s public relations officer. As of the time this report was made, he had not responded to a text message that had been sent to him.
