Tailor Reveals His Struggles to Balance Work and School
In 2023, UNIBEN’s Faculty of Physical Sciences had its top student be Basil Enebeli, who went on to earn a first-class degree in Physics.
He had to juggle tailoring with his studies, but through hard work and keen insight, he was able to succeed at both.
His family and his strong moral compass inspired him to succeed, while his interest in Physics and his active social life at college contributed to his overall happiness.
Basil Enebeli wanted nothing more than to excel academically at the University of Benin in Edo State.
Not only did he succeed in doing so, but he also graduated in 2023 with a first-class degree in Physics, making him the best student in the Faculty of Physical Sciences.
His academic achievements were not, however, without effort. He had to juggle tailoring with his studies, among other challenges.
Before enrolling in college, Enebeli told our correspondent, he discovered a passion for sewing.
He justified this decision by saying he needed the money and wanted to promote himself rather than go back to school.
He opened a tailor shop and quickly gained a loyal clientele. This, however, necessitated that he coordinate his time between school and work.
Enebeli was quoted as saying that one of his favourite parts of studying physics was getting to know people from all over the country. He said it was an exciting and enlightening experience.
He also claimed to not be a total introvert and to have a lively social life among his fellow students. He credited his drive and ambition to his family’s commitment to his education.
Enebeli claimed that he spent the most time sewing at the beginning of the semester and on breaks, when schoolwork was not a priority.
He claimed he sewed less in the months leading up to exams, and then stopped entirely.
