Niger Republic’s coup leaders have met with former Emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi.
The meeting with the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) follows the junta’s cancellation of a meeting with the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and a top US diplomat.
The military leaders refused to meet with an ECOWAS delegation sent to broker peace.
The meeting between Sanusi and coup leader Abdourahmane Tiani was captured on camera and has since gone viral.
The Sultan of Damagaran accompanied Sanusi to his meeting with the Junta leaders.
The city of Damagaran is Niger’s third largest.
