A man was fined for paying four prostitutes using a fake alert.
Oluwafemi Damilola was brought before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing N45,000 from four prostitutes.
The victims told The PUNCH that Damilola solicited them for sex, and after they offered him their services, he paid them by generating a fake alert.
According to reports, the case was reported to the police, and Damilola was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts bordering on fraud.
The police prosecutor, Akano Moremi, stated that the defendant committed the offense in the Sabo neighborhood of Ondo city in October 2022.
The charge stated, “That you, Oluwafemi Damilola, in October 2022 on Sabo Road, Ondo, in the Ondo Magistrates’ District, acted in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by having fraudulent carnal knowledge of the victims.
“That you, Oluwafemi Damilola, on the same date, time, and location in the aforementioned magisterial district, indecently assaulted the female victims by fraudulently and unlawfully having carnal knowledge of them with the pretense of sending them the sum of N45,000 which you failed to do but willingly sent them a fake alert with the intention of defrauding them sexually and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Sections 249 and 360
In addition, the prosecutor informed the court that five witnesses would be called to testify and requested a date to review the case file.
However, the attorney for the defendant, S. A. Iluyemi, stated that both parties were already negotiating a settlement.
He pleaded with the court to release the defendant to him and assured the court that the defendant would pay the complainants before the next adjournment date.
The Chief Magistrate, Charity Adeyanju, granted the defense attorney’s request and ordered that the money be paid to the complainants before the next adjournment date.
