BREAKING – GAS TRUCK EXPLODES IN ABUJA, RESIDENTS FLEE
Last night, a gas truck caught fire and exploded in the Gwagwa neighborhood of Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), prompting residents to flee for their lives.
Saturday Tribune reports that the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near a location known as Police Junction, according to witnesses.
In a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, it was disclosed that on June 9, 2023, at approximately 9:00 a.m., a tanker transporting Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) experienced a mechanical failure near Gwagwa primary school along Gwagwa-Karmo road.
A spark ignited, causing an explosion that engulfed the tanker in flames, while attempts were being made to repair the malfunction. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.
SP Josephine Adeh stated, “The situation is under control as police officers from GWAGWA Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, and Federal Fire Service personnel responded swiftly to the scene.”
They managed the damage effectively, implemented safety measures, and maintained crowd control. Presently, efforts are being made to completely extinguish the contained fire.”
In addition, an investigation has been initiated into the immediate and underlying causes of the explosion. The public is urged to disregard contradictory reports and engage in lawful pursuits without fear.
